Firefox 41版剛發布沒多久，現在，Mozilla又推出了42.0 beta版，主打隱私保護和追蹤牌。這項叫做隱私瀏覽下的追蹤保護(Tracking Protection in Private Browsing)的試驗性功能將覆蓋各大平臺，包括Mac、Windows、Linux、Android。據悉，該功能主要針對第三方對用戶使用習慣的追蹤。

近期，開發商對這方面變得尤為重視。比如蘋果最新發布的iOS 9，就具備了屏蔽第三方數據追蹤的功能。

除 了追蹤保護功能之外，42.0 beta版Firefox還加入多個其他新的功能，如桌面客戶端下的瀏覽器其控制中心(Control Center)現具備了安全與隱私控制功能、播放音頻的標簽得到了新的指示標記、一鍵靜音功能、登錄管理和WebRTS功能加強、加入更多類型HTML5 和以開發者為方向的更新。

Android版（移動版）同樣也有大量新增的功能如在后臺打開Android軟件的外部URL、無需切換軟件就能打開多個鏈接、支持在地址欄中直接輸入語音、允許用戶預覽、編輯及刪除登錄。
