Welcome to Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5-TEST-2 Release Notes
Parsix GNU/Linux is a live and installation DVD based on Debian. Our goal is to provide a ready to use and easy to install desktop and laptop optimized operating system based on Debian's testing branch and the latest stable release of GNOME desktop environment. Users can easily install extra software packages from Parsix APT repositories. Our annual release cycle consists of two major and four minor versions. We have our own software repositories and build servers to build and provide all the necessary updates and missing features in Debian stable branch.
What's New in 7.5?
Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 (code name Rinaldo) brings the latest stable GNOME desktop environment, a new kernel built using our modernized kernel build system, updated installer, a new version of systemd and an upgraded X.Org Server. This version has been synchronized with Debian Wheezy repositories as of February 20, 2015. Thanks to the upgraded X.Org server, there is a noticable desktop performance improvement. Parsix Rinaldo ships with GNOME 3.14 and LibreOffice productivity suit by default. Highlights: GNOME Shell 3.14.3, X.Org 1.16.4, GRUB 2, GNU Iceweasel (Firefox) 37.0, GParted 0.12.1, Empathy 3.12.8, LibreOffice 4.3.3, VirtualBox 4.3.18 and a kernel based on Linux 3.14.36 with TuxOnIce 3.3, BFS and other extra patches. Live DVD has been compressed using SquashFS and XZ.

Other Notable Changes in 7.5
- Artwork, based on Metal X Shell Theme by justviper, Sunset on the Open Seas photo by Jen042184, Faience icon theme by tiheum. Artwork is still a WIP.
- Updated Adobe flash player to 11.2.202.451 (for 32 and 64 bit).
Note for nVidia and ATI/AMD Users
You can download and install the latest nVidia (340.24) and ATI/AMD (14.4) precompiled drivers and kernel modules from the APT repository. If you are using an ATI/AMD graphic chip and have stability issues with GNOME Shell, use the non-free drivers. nVidia-legacy 173xx and 96xx series cards are not supported anymore and, users of those cards should switch to Nouveau open source driver. nVidia 304xx series cards also became legacy and precompiled drivers and kernel modules are avaialble to download from our APT repository. Note for Virtual Environment Users
If you are experiencing GNOME Shell stability issues in virtual environments, try disabling User-theme extension.
UEFI Boot
Our 64 bit edition supports UEFI boot and installation. UEFI support is still experimental. Please report if you see any issues.
Parsix Software Repositories
Parsix GNU/Linux has four main software repositories:
- Official: This repository contains packages officially maintained and built by the project
- Continent: This repository is a snapshot of Debian testing branch except packages covered by official repository
- Wonderland: This repository is a snapshot of Debian Multimedia repository
- Security: All security updates are being uploaded to this repository
For Parsix Rinaldo, your default /etc/apt/sources.list file should look like this:

Updating Existing Installations
It is possible to use apt-get dist-upgrade to upgrade existing version 7.0 installations. For older versions, run the installer in update mode to upgrade.
