VectorLinux 7.1 "Light" 發布

Vector Linux是一份小巧快捷的、基于Intel處理器的PC機Linux操作系統。Vector Linux的創建者們有一則簡單的信條：簡單、小巧，并讓最終用戶決定他們的操作系統成為什么樣子。由此觀念發展而來的恐怕是世界上小型Linux操作系統中的最優者。對那些普通的計算機用戶而言，他們得到的是一份快捷的桌面，有很多圖形化的程序可供處理日常中的各種事物，從上網沖浪、收發電子郵件到用 ICQ或者IRC聊天，以及架設一臺ftp服務器。高級用戶們將會感到滿意，因為有全套的工具可以編譯他們自己的應用程序，從而把系統設置成服務器，要么是家庭或辦公室計算機網絡的網關。系統管理員們將同樣得到滿足，因為這份操作系統所要求的磁盤和內存空間是那樣的小，以至可以部署在那些恐怕早已被遺忘的舊式機器上。


Vector Linux Light 7.1 is released and available for download. A big "Thank You!" goes out to all the contributors and testers who helped make this possible.

The "lightness" of this version is relative to our Standard version, and is achieved by using the lightweight IceWM window manager in place of the XFCE desktop environment. You may also choose barebone X-windows with just TWM. Otherwise, the base system and installation experience is the same as Standard.

IceWM is old school. It uses a manual approach, much like a stick shift instead of an automatic transmission. It doesn't change unless you tell it to. Configuration is managed by editing plain text files. To make things easier and get you started, some of the most common tweaks are also scripted and controllable by a GUI app.

Target audience consists of those who like and prefer IceWM, owners of older computers, and users who want a minimal, yet functional, starting point for their own creation.

Minimum recommended hardware: an Intel Core class CPU, 1 GB of  RAM, and 10 GB of drive space.
Minimum required hardware: a pae-compatible CPU, 256 MB of RAM and 4 GB of hard drive space.
